Purify App (conceptual)
Designing new ways to save the planet and make it accessible across the globe
(one day this will become true #bekindtotheearth)
Volunteering is difficult because everyone has their own lives to live and schedules to keep up with.
For this project, I designed an end-to-end mobile app that allows users to track and manage their volunteering information. The high-level design goals and objectives were to: collect non-profits of the same cause all onto one mobile platform, design an IOS app that’s consistent with material design guidelines and organize information in a way that is useful and valuable to users. I acted as: User Researcher, Information Architect, Interaction Designer, and UI Designer for this project

My initial step was to do some research and I started by doing some analysis of the nonprofits with online platforms (whether they used apps or websites as their platform). According to Apple’s App Store an app like purify was not found, rather apps like "iHurricane" or "chasing Ice" were only available. What the application does is it notifies users about the climate issue but nothing about how to get involved and be a part of the change they can do for the climate. Still knowing that these apps are being used and downloaded lets me know that people are curious about their environment.
Some of my questions coming into this project were how often users would engage in volunteering, and if they would offer time volunteering, or be financially confident in donating.
1-on-1 interviews
After I finished the secondary research I conducted several 1-on-1 interviews. The interviews were valuable to the process. I really enjoyed sitting down with people who had passions about the health of our environment and having conversations about how the impact of a cleaner environment can improve our lives. I learned so much about what we can do as a community that can change the environment. I also learned a lot about the matters of accessibility our society needs nowadays. And that accessibility is something we cannot avoid offering.

Task Flow
Solving The Problem
Users mentioned that when they are busy or out of town that volunteering feels like a huge time consumer and even a chore on days when you’re just tired. To change that, the donation feature or awareness feature through social media made the users feel less burdened and allowed them to feel more engaged in cleaning the ocean. So when they are busy sometimes the app will even explain in simpler graph form the positive impact each user contributed whether it was volunteering, donating, or social awareness.
Lastly, three users also mentioned that they used their computers so having a website option would be great as well.
Task Flow
The next step was to create a task flow. The task flow allowed me to track our new user’s journey through the app. In this particular case the user is new to the app so he/she is exploring the navigation buttons.
After the foundation and interviews, the next step was to create the wireframes. This step assisted me in moving closer to accurately appointing the correct features & flows to the design.

I designed the UI and visuals to fit within the colors of the ocean's gradience and chose Gibson font for all of the typography, giving the app a consistent feel.

This was a fun project to work on. I really enjoyed the end-to-end process of building this conceptual app. I especially enjoyed the research phase of this project. The goal is always to empathize with users but with this project, it went to another level. This vision has become something that allows the users to bring change to the quality of life. It was amazing to sit down and talk with them about how they can bring a positive impact to the world and bring change. These are conversations I will never forget. From the design side of things, I want to continue to explore the science in thermostats and try to improve more in the user experience. I will continue researching, testing, and iterating until those alternative avenues are met.
